Our
History
M. T. Pockets Theatre Company is a 501(c)3 NPO supported, in part, by
grants from the Greater Morgantown Community Trust, the Douglas Tanner
Fund for the Arts, and the Monongalia County Commission. Founded
in 1999, the company strives to provide high quality, affordable entertainment
to the greater Morgantown area by presenting a broad range of works
that include new and established plays, productions that reach beyond
the normal limits and give new insights to sensitive issues, and provide
a venue for alternative theatre and women in the performing arts. M.
T. Pockets Theatre produces year-round, presenting an annual spring
fund-raising dinner, touring when possible, and performing murder-mysteries
and other productions at private functions. The
100% volunteer company is a group of devoted theatre professionals and
enthusiasts who are dedicated to presenting theatre of the highest quality
with style, passion and artistic excellence.
Our
Mission
To enhance the theatre community in Morgantown, West Virginia,
and surrounding regions by presenting live performances of classic,
contemporary and new works that promote women and minorities in the
arts; provide a venue for alternative theatre that addresses contemporary
and sensitive issues through performance; provide a venue for new works
and support the work of emerging playwrights and artists without bias;
provide theatre accessible to those whom otherwise might not have the
opportunity to experience live theatre due to physical, financial, or
geographical limitations.
Diversity
Statement & Inclusion
M. T. Pockets Theatre Company
is committed to the goals of diversity, inclusion and the principles
of equal opportunity for all who participate in the performance arts.
To these ends, we encourage production opportunities in all theatrical
disciplines and areas of theatrical production to include persons of
every race, color, culture, age, gender, physical challenge and sexual
orientation, thereby contributing to a theatre (both on and off stage)
that reflects the full diversity of our community and society.
While
we recognize that there can be no interference with the artistic integrity
or contractual rights of the playwright, director and other theatre
artists, we challenge participating artists in our own theatre community
to confront traditional stereotypes. We acknowledge that the growth
and vitality of theatre is dependent upon the inclusion of diverse voices
and impulses in all theatrical disciplines.
