Like the symbolic Venus flytrap in the lush jungle
garden, "Suddenly Last Summer" is a rare and
exotic breed that needs
special care to survive.
A
brilliant investigation of the human psyche told through
a meeting between Mrs. Violet Venable (Tammy Hoier), and
her niece Catharine Holly (Lauren Weigle), who is summoned
to
reveal the truth surrounding the death of Mrs. Venable's
son.
Mrs. Venable plans to make a large donation to a psychiatric
hospital -- on the condition that Catharine is sacrificed
to a
young doctor (Shea Thompson) keen to experiment
with lobotomies.
Through
a series of brilliantly drawn metaphors, Williams
explores homosexuality, familial bonds, mental illness and
a persons savage determination to silence the truth
by erasing the past.
