Morgantown New Playwright Project
New play development is one of the cornerstones of M.
T. Pockets Theatre Company and the
basis for the Morgantown Playwright Project – a collaboration
between M. T. Pockets Theatre
and the Metropolitan Theatre Board. Indeed providing dramaturgical support
for both women and men playwrights and nurturing scripts from rough
first drafts through to final production is a specialized, time-consuming
and very necessary labor of love. Throughout our brief history,
our play development initiatives have seen remarkable success. We have
shepherded
projects by local playwrights Don Fidler and Jeremiah Munsey, as well
as other national and international playwrights. This project hopes
to bring together emerging and established
playwrights with local directors and actors.
Phase One:
M. T. Pockets Explorations:
Readings of new scripts to be selected from
submitted scripts as part of this monthly series. Talk back sessions
will follow each reading
to allow audience feedback.
Phase Two: One to Two of these readings will
move to Bare Bones productions the
following season. Bare Bones - fully rehearsed public presentations
of plays in the final
stages of development.
Phase Three: Same two productions will have
two to three
day, fully-produced runs at the Metropolitan Theatre.
