The Imaginary Invalid is a classical comedy written by Molière in 1673. This biting social satire exposes our blind obedience to doctors and the business of "saving" lives. The play remains as relevant as ever in the pandemic and medical misinformation era.
The play centers around Argan, a hypochondriac that is being exploited by the medical industry that is figuratively and literally bleeding him dry. Argan's family tries to open his eyes to the nefarious plans of his 2nd wife and the leeches coming for his fortune.
Molière portrayed the role of Argan when the play premiered in 1673. After the fourth
performance, he hemorrhaged from the lungs from tuberculosis he contracted years earlier and
died. We plan to have no Argans harmed in the making of this show, however.
